Riba-Stables
Home
Riba Stables is situated in the heart of Johannesburg’s horse country, in Kyalami (Midrand). We are three kilometres away from Kyalami Equestrian Park, Gauteng Horse Society and the SA Lipizzaners, and conveniently close to a number of graded competition venues
Riba Stables was started by Barbie Gertenbach in 1980 with 6 Stables (4 school Ponies) and hardly any facilities. Now Riba offers riding lessons, vaulting lessons, livery and has 63 stables, a sand jumping arena (70x50m), two dressage arenas (20x40m and 20x60m –with mirrors), a vaulting arena, a beginner’s ‘bunny ring’, a loose-jumping lane, and a large grass competition arena with a devil’s dyke, water jump, and various banks and walls. There are also various cross-country jumps scattered around the property.

Unless the weather is very bad or a thunderstorm is expected, the Riba horses spend their days in paddocks, with friends or alone depending on what suits each horse. Many of the horses enjoy the big paddock, which has trees and a dam and lots of space and friends. There are also many smaller paddocks. All the paddocks have electric tape, which is safe and prevents the horses from injuring themselves on solid fences, and water is available all the time and checked twice a day.
